Well previously with russmus V1 every band had their own page. So we had Kino.html, Ariya.html etc etc.
We had the same for all the songs.. so we'd have Kino-Spokoynaya-noch.htm Ariya-ulitaza-roz.html
This ment that if you wanted to make a new artist for instance, then you'd have to find a page, copy it, delete all the artists information, add in the new artists information. It became a huge pain (espeicaly if an artist had about 10 songs to add :S)
In RussmusV2 all these pages are replaced with a database. This means that we have 1 page, called band, and that page will fetch the apropriate information out of the database and generate you the page :)
Thus to add a new artist/band/song whatever, all you have to do is add the relevent data into the database (witch is easy)
Not only does this mean more frequent updates, but more content as well. You will notice in V2 we include bands entire discographies, insted of just their songs we have translations for.
We also have automatic transliteration, Youtube videos for songs, song lyrics without translations and album covers
Plans to do a russmus database were in the planning stages for quite a while. Lather took on the job of doing it in PHP some time ago, but wen't inactive before he could make any progress.
So in Decemeber 2006 jammers took on the role of making russmus V2, he did it in JSP since he had experince in that and this kind of problem is a textbook example of what JSP is used for.
And in January 2007 he had it pritty much finished. Univeristy work started taking up most of his time, so he couldn't get round to getting it installed until Febuary
That depends on what you mean by it, and what you mean by maintains
jammers fixes all the problems and adds new features to the code
katya changes the look and feel of the website
Everyone contributes to the content by cataloging artists/albums/songs
Due to Jammers's time constraints there were some features that regretibly didn't make it into V2
The main one being internationisation. Russmus is an international comunity with people from all over the world, however at the moment, only an English language version of our pages exists, We had hoped that other versions of our page in other languages would be made.
This will be implemented in V2.5 witch will be installed when Jammers's has enough free time to write it
